Future Generations China travels to Tibet to honor final wish of former Country Director, Su Chun-Wuei

As the first director of Future Generations China, Ms. Su Chun-Wuei devoted herself to the work in Tibet. Under her leadership, the Pendeba Society project was developed in Shigaste, Nyingchi, Qamdo and Nagqu where over her tenure more than 300 Pendebas were admitted. Ms. Su was well- loved and esteemed among the locals for her concern for the well-being of the people and her efforts to improve living standards, which she demonstrated by training Pendebas, building schools and endowing these new institutions. In accordance with Ms. Su's wishes, Future Generations China staff returned to Tibet, a land she loved so much, to help the people once again. On September 19, the staff visited Rongbu Monastery, a place dear to Ms. Su, to bestow a financial contribution from Ms. Su to help alleviate some of the monastery’s most urgent problems. The team also brought books on biodiversity protection and briefing on the work of the Pendeba Society. The team along with the members of the monastery prayed for Ms. Su. Future Generations hopes that Rongbu Monastery will fulfill Ms. Su's greatest wish by helping the people of Tibet and improving the protection of biodiversity in the region. During the visit, the team met many people who echoed the sentiment of, “How wonderful Su Chun-Wuei was.” According to the monks of Rongbu Monastery, Ms. Su provided great assistance many times. She hoped that besides performing good deeds to help local people, the monks could also dissuade people from harming wildlife and vegetation. As the gateway to the Mount Everest Base Camp, Rongbu Monastery is the world's highest monastery. Having among them the first Pendebas ever trained, the monastery has made a great contribution to sustainable development in the area. Later, the coordinators of the Pendeba project went to Qiamaba Village of Gyirong County to discuss with the local people, ways to make the best use of a portion of Ms. Su's donation. A proposal was created targeting some of the most urgent problems faced by locals. By encouraging the participation of local people in the process of indentifying problems, carrying out programs for sustainable community, encouraging the cooperation of local government, and utilizing research from experts in the field, Future Generations China hopes to one day achieve Su Chun-Wuei’s dream.
